The Sonajhuri Haat, also known as the Khoai Mela or Shonibarer Haat, is the cultural heartbeat of Bolpur, Shantiniketan. It is a weekly open-air market that brings together local artisans, tribal performers, and nature lovers in a unique forest setting.

Essential Visitor Information

  • Days & Timings: The full market happens every Saturday. While it may start around 1:00 PM, the peak hours are between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Stalls usually begin to close at sundown (around 5:30 PM–6:00 PM). A smaller version, known as bhaya haat, sometimes occurs on Sunday mornings.

  • Location: It is held on the banks of the Kopai River within the Sonajhuri Forest, approximately 3–5 km from Bolpur Station and the main Shantiniketan campus.

  • Entrance: There is no entry fee to visit the forest or the market.

Top Highlights & Activities
